Our History

Fundación María was created to invest its resources in social initiatives that promote human development by improving the physical and structural conditions of healthcare services and implementing specialized units so that the most vulnerable children can receive dignified, high-quality care.

With over 26 years of work, we have mobilized resources, built strategic partnerships, and helped thousands of children access the treatment they deserve — regardless of their economic situation.

The foundation was founded by Mary de Flores, wife of former Honduran President Carlos Roberto Flores, after two decades of volunteer service in public hospitals and cultural initiatives. Today, Fundación María uses its influence to give children a healthy start in life by improving health centers, education, recreation, and sustainable development opportunities.

Our vision is to become a leading advocate for child health, ensuring that every child receives the support needed for their physical, emotional, and social development.

To achieve this, we focus on strengthening medical care, providing humanitarian aid, ensuring proper nutrition, and promoting holistic education through our social projects and programs — always prioritizing the most vulnerable areas and the pediatric population.

Little Hearts

El programa nace con el propósito de fortalecer la Unidad de Corazón y la misión del Hospital María, Especialidades Pediátricas (HMEP).

Donaciones de Medicamentos e Insumos a el HMEP

Fundación María atiende necesidades médicas urgentes del Hospital María, como la compra de medicamentos, insumos quirúrgicos y reparación de equipos especializados. Este apoyo fortalece la capacidad operativa del hospital y permite que más niños puedan ser atendidos de forma oportuna, segura y con recursos de calidad.

Muchos pacientes pediátricos y sus familiares viajan desde zonas rurales para recibir atención médica en el HMEP. Fundación María apoya a Fundación Abrigo, un albergue que les brinda hospedaje, alimentación y acompañamiento durante su estadía; lo que garantiza que las familias puedan enfocarse en la recuperación sin preocupar se por sus necesidades básicas.

Little Hearts Club

Es una iniciativa estudiantil que promueve la creación de clubes en centros educativos para apoyar al programa Little Hearts. Los estudiantes organizan actividades solidarias y de recaudación de fondos para beneficiar a pacientes del HMEP. Además, busca generar conciencia sobre las cardiopatías congénitas en Honduras y formar jóvenes comprometidos con causas sociales.

Little Hearts is a program led by Fundación María to provide life-saving heart surgeries to children with congenital heart defects in Honduras. The goal is simple: no child should go without treatment due to lack of resources.
Through this program, Fundación María channels the generosity of donors like you to transform a family’s fear into hope. The funds raised by Little Hearts go directly to these children — hearts longing for a second chance, full of hope, life, and the desire to celebrate their future.
